HEY!
If you’re reading this, you’ve probably just come across Happy Travels for the first time. Hold on tight cause your life is about to be CHANGED!
… no, no I kid. You can let go of your seat now.
Here’s what’s really up
I’m Alexandra, but a lot of people just call me Alex. I’m a twenty-something third culture kid based in California. Right now, my life fits into two suitcases. I’ve been working hard to take advantage of any and all opportunities to travel. I’ll go anywhere as long as there are friendly faces, wild places, and good food. One day (soon) I’m going to have to get my third passport because I’ve managed to fill the other two.
How do I travel and where am I going?
I’ve been travelling my entire life. I lucked out with the best family a girl can ask for and grew up abroad (China & Singapore). As a third-culture kid, I’ve struggled with staying in one place for too long and settling down. After I graduated university at Kenyon College in 2017, I moved my life to Nanjing, China for graduate school. After that, and a few months in the Bay Area, I started my DREAM JOB.
Since December 2018, I’ve been working on and off of small expedition ships as an Anthropology/History Lecturer and Expedition Staff Member. AKA a fancy way of saying that I give presentations, lead hikes, help with snorkeling operations, give natural and cultural interpretation and drive Zodiacs (a type of small inflatable boat) around the world.
My job takes me to super isolated and far flung places. I’ve been to Aldabra Atoll in the Seychelles, tiny towns in Arctic Greenland, and am set to go to Antarctica in 2020. It’s been an incredible, challenging, and eye-opening year.
What is the purpose of this blog?
My original mission was to provide a platform so that my family (and a few interested friends) could follow along with my escapades. But now I’ve realized that I also really want to do this for myself. I’ve regretted not writing about my experiences in the past, so here I am trying.
But, enough rambling! Go read some posts!
Want to work with me?
Wait? Really! Ha, ok… Here is how to contact me.
