NICE TO MEET YOU!
I’m Alexandra (Alex, 韩颖)! I voyage around the world, alternating between living on ships and running around on land.
Let’s start with the basics: I’m 24-years-old, a self-proclaimed ice cream addict, and have found a passion for exploring the outdoors.
My story began in Southern California, but I have spent most of my life living in Asia. Having grown up in China and Singapore, I was lucky enough to have a family that encouraged travel from day 1. My formative years featured many snorkeling, backpacking, mountain biking, and kayaking trips around the world.
After graduating Kenyon College (’17) with three majors in Chinese, Asian Studies and International Studies, and a minor in Anthropology, I moved my life to China to attend the Hopkins-Nanjing Center.
In Feb 2018, an INCREDIBLE opportunity presented itself. I was given the opportunity to become a Lecturer/Expedition Staff Member on a series of small expedition ships. I took it and haven’t looked back since.
My current trajectory is taking me to far-flung, remote places around the world. This past year I visited 19 countries including: South Africa, Mozambique, Madagascar, Tanzania, Seychelles, Maldives, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Indonesia, Australia, South Korea, Japan, Russia, USA (Alaska), Iceland, Greenland, and Canada.
Over the course of the next 2 years I’ll be exploring another 30+ countries and will hit all 7 continents. If you want to know what I’m up to you’ll have to read a blog post or two (be warned, I’m not a “writer,” so don’t expect Pulitzer Prize winning content here).
If you’re too lazy to read any of my posts (I don’t blame you), here are some sweet but wholly unusable tidbits to finish painting my portrait:
- I like parentheses, ellipses and exclamation points (best for interjecting trivial thoughts and excitement!)
- I’ve been trying to up my photography game (but it is definitely a work in progress)
- I have the best support-system in the world (thank you thank you thank you)
- I will cross an entire city in pursuit of good bread and tea (best tea: teh tarik)
Happy travels!
AH
